Lakeside Junior High School
Completed in August 2021, the new Lakeside Junior High is part of a comprehensive campus renewal at Lakeside School and serves as the new home for 7th and 8th grade students. Designed to accommodate up to ten years of growth, the 90,000-square-foot facility adds 40 classrooms while freeing existing middle and high school buildings to expand within their current spaces.
A central atrium spine organizes the building into two primary zones: one for academic programs and the other for communal and activity spaces such as the media center and dining hall. At the heart of this spine, a large collaboration stair connects learning and gathering areas, offering students flexible spaces to engage in project-based and interdisciplinary learning beyond the traditional classroom.
Open visual connections across floors enhance orientation and foster a sense of community throughout the building. Each classroom wing features generous glazing and open stairwells at its ends, allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the interior and reducing reliance on artificial lighting. In addition to its academic spaces, the facility includes dedicated areas for band, choir, and the arts, as well as administrative offices that make the school fully self-supporting. Together, these elements create a bright, energy-efficient, and collaborative learning environment that embodies the forward-looking spirit of the Lakeside School campus.
