Lakeside Junior High School

The new junior academy is part of a large-scale update to the Lakeside School campus. The new junior high is to be a catalyst for a fresh and energetic school atmosphere on the Lakeside School campus.

The large atrium spine splits the school into separate programs with one side being academic and the other being more gathering spaces like the media center and dining. At the center of the spine is a large collaboration stair bridging the gap between academia and gathering space. The collaboration stair allows students to break away from the normal classroom setting and engage subject matter in new and collaborative ways.

Open views to levels above and below give students a sense of place and facilitate way finding throughout the building. Each classroom wing are composed of large spans of glazing and are book-ended by large open stairwells. This allows light to filter into the building limiting the need for artificial light and power.
